Standoffs for Sheet Metal
standoffs-for-sheet-metal
The fastener head is locked securely in a blind, milled hole and is able to handle substantial loads. The concealed-head feature allows the side of the sheet opposite installation to remain smooth.
Sheet preparation only requires a milled blind hole to the recommended minimum depth. Center-cutting end mills for hole preparation are available from PennEngineering. Installation of the concealed-head studs and standoffs is simple using a hollow anvil and solid punch. Place the head of the fastener in the hole and insert using any standard press. Displaced sheet metal flows smoothly around the head into the undercut. CSOS_CSS.jpg
These all-metal standoffs use a spring action to hold PC boards and subassemblies securely, while allowing for quick removal. Screws and other threaded hardware are eliminated. This means less parts to handle during assembly and less risk of damaging delicate circuitry because of loose parts falling into your equipment.
These standoffs are permanently installed in the panel by squeezing them into a properly sized hole using any standard press. SSA.jpg
Types SOAG and SOSG grounding standoffs are designed for clinching into steel or aluminum chassis while the “gripping teeth” on the opposite end of the standoff firmly contact mating PC board.
If you require a standoff which we do not offer in this bulletin, please contact us. We will be happy to work with you to satisfy your special need.
For special lengths greater than .500”, Types SOSG and SOAG are blind threaded. SOSG.jpg
Types DSO and DSOS standoffs are available for close-to-edge applications.
If you require a standoff which we do not offer in this bulletin, please contact us. We will be happy to work with you to satisfy your special need.
Available in other lengths on special order. DSOS.jpg
Concealed-Head Standoffs – Types CSOS, CSS

Self-clinching microPEM® Standoffs - Types MSO4™, MSOFS™
PEM Type MSO4 self-clinching microPEM® standoffs are used to stack or space internal components and provide strong, permanent, and reusable load-bearing threads in metal sheets as thin as .012” / 0.3mm. Thread sizes have been developed as small as M1 and available unified fastener lengths are .094” and .125” and 2mm and 3mm in metric.- Become integral parts of an assembly by clinching permanently in place.
- Will not loosen or fall out.
- Can be installed into stainless steel sheets.
- Can be installed automatically.
- RoHS compliant.
